About Hunnar Gurukul
Hunnar Gurukul is an artisan incubator for the disadvantaged, illiterate or financially weaker adolescents in our country’s rural areas. It designs and implements a year-long residential program (inspired by Hunnarshala and supported by Lend A Hand India) currently focusing on Carpentry and Masonry trades. They are based out of Pune, where the students and alumni are building a campus for the institution putting into practice all the learnings from the program
Participants can build understanding on
- Using locally available earth, reducing carbon footprint and providing durability with minimal maintenance
- Naturally insulating, low-cost, and eco-friendly, relying entirely on local, biodegradable materials.
- Vernacular Architecture Elements: Observing bamboo joinery, thatch roofing, and earthen plasters.
- Climate Responsiveness: How building orientation, shading, and natural ventilation reduce heat gain
- Natural building methods create sustainable, climate-smart architecture with local, low-carbon materials.
