About
What we do
Teaching+Learning Laboratory (TLL) was officially established in 2020. The centre was established partly in response to the challenges in teaching and learning posed by the pandemic restrictions. It has been working as a lateral support and innovation system for the day to day practice of Teaching and Learning. Its activities include giving consultation to teachers on their teaching practice, help in course design, and innovate the teaching learning with inputs at all the stages of the process. We also undertake research projects that assess the efficacy of Teaching Learning Practice at BNCA.
The logo of TLL represents a hastamudra or a hand gesture that is known as the ‘vitarka’ mudra. The mudra is used in our traditional practice as one that indicates the act of inquiring or asking questions and discussing.
Past work
Every semester TLL team sits with subject teachers, mainly the Design teachers to rationalise the design studio offerings for the coming semester.
TLL has created educational aids such as scaled bricks to help foundation year students in visualising and understanding aspects of brick masonry. We have also created paper templates with drafting aids such as dot grid or and isometric grid. These paper templates are being used for drawing work in the subjects of Construction, History of Architecture, Graphics and Theory of Structures.
TLL is also attempting gamification as a strong tool for crafting educational experiences. A set of blocks, called ArchiBlox are being used in the teaching of Basics of Design to foundation year students
TLL has conducted workshops and one day sessions not only at BNCA but also at various architecture education institutes.

We are a group of teachers interested in improving Teaching and Learning of Architecture. While engaged with our day to day teaching, we also work under TLL on various projects.

Teaching Consultation
TLL provides consultation to teachers in various aspects related to their teaching practice such as course preparation, student-centred strategies, metacognitive strategies, Assessment and Evaluation. This consultation is available upon request.
Faculty Programs
TLL conducts orientation programs to new faculty joing BNCA on effective use of learning management system, writing course outcomes, evaluation, assessment and session planning. These programs are generally held at the beginning of the new academic year or semester as the case may be.
TLL speaker series
In its nascent stage, the series is visualised as a platform for sharing of best practices among the Architecture Teacher Community.
