BNCA’s Center for Cultural Studies (CCS), established in the year 2022 intends to study, integrate and explore multidimensional aspects of Culture and become the focal point in research, advisory and capacity building.
CCS intends at providing a platform to explore aspects of culture through multidisciplinary lens of heritage, conservation, urbanism, sustainability, anthropology, Indology, archaeology that address its physical and meta-physical existence. It aims to act as a repository of existing knowledge systems and generate awareness and develop resources to contribute through education, theories and practice. It intends to develop a platform to connect with surroundings, societies to bridge the gap between theories, practices and policies to create sustainable and equitable solutions.
With the SDG’s focusing on various tangible and intangible aspects of Resilience and Sustainability, Culture is established as the 4th pillar. The discourse of architecture often is perceived through the lens of built environment but cannot be constrained to it. With blurring of boundaries between environments, society and human dimension, the discourse of Culture also presents avenues to be explored through multiple dimensions.
Culture as a lens encompasses both subtle and obvious cues of the traditions, human behaviours, codes, beliefs passed over generations that are integral for the present day societies to be resilient and sustainable. Often when limited to certain predefined lenses of study, the astute knowledge of cultural systems cannot be comprehended. CCS aims to develop this association, build on the expertise, collaborations through joint research opportunities, exploration, experimentation, publications and public outreach.
BNCA welcomes you all to be a part of this initiative.
